Smoked Honey Ham Instructions
If you’re like many, you shy away from cooking ham because after following the directions on the label you found yourself with a dry, unpalatable mess. Throw those instructions away and break out the grill! This delicious Smoked Honey Ham recipe is brought to you by Rus Jones from Smoky Ribs using our Slow 'N Sear® Kettle Grill with the Slow ‘N Sear® insert and the Drip 'N Griddle Pan.
- 1 fully cooked spiral cut smoked ham
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of white sugar
- 3 tablespoons of plain gelatin
- 3 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
- Enough honey to coat ham
PrepSet up your SnS kettle grill for indirect heat and dial it in to 250°F. For additional lighting information, read our Slow ‘N Sear® - Lighting Instructions.
CookPlace the ham on the indirect side of the grill and close the lid. Allow the ham to heat up to around 120°-130°F internal temperature. Remove the ham and while it’s resting, put all the ingredients for the sugar coating together and mix well. Pat the ham with paper towels to remove any exterior moisture or puddling that may have happen while heating up.
Rub the ham down with honey and then coat as heavy as possible with the sugar mixture. Turn the ham on its sides if needed to ensure a heavy coating. If using the water reservoir on the Slow 'N Sear®, remove it and fill the Slow 'N Sear® basket completely full with lit charcoal. Open all vents wide open, including the smoke hole. Once the charcoal are at their very hottest, place the ham back on indirect heat, place the lid on and check very often to make sure not to allow the sugars to burn. You may have to rotate the position of the ham to get even melting and caramelizing of the sugar mixture. Once all the sugar coating has melted and glazed the ham, remove from the grill and allow to cool to almost room temperature.
