So far, so good.
I’ve been using the Weber charcoal baskets for several years and it has worked well. But what I appreciate most about the slow ’n sear is the ability to have more fuel in one space, which helps keep heat for a longer period of time.
Everything SNS Lovers Say It Is
Like most who take the time to read reviews before a purchase, I did my share of reading and watching vids about the SNS. I'd been cooking with my Weber Master Touch and the included charcoal baskets perfectly well, or so I thought. Moving to use the SNS was most certainly a revelation and an improvement over the baskets or using bricks to create the 2-zone area. What I noticed immediately on the very first cook was how much more easily I was able to dial in a temperature and keep it there. All the other variables remained constant from prior cooks: ambient temp (I live in FL), no wind, no humidity, and the same charcoal (Kingsford Pro briquettes). The whole chicken I smoked last night using a chunk of hickory and the Simon and Garfunkel rub from Meathead's book was better than anything I've ever tasted and I didn't go crazy trying to do it. That's where the SNS really shines, IMHO. The best analogy I can make (for you woodworkers out there) is that this is a very high-quality BBQ jig that helps put out really lovely food. Just like there many ways and means to make a cut in wood, from low tech stuff you make yourself to purchasing a really well-made, well-machined jig that just works, so the same pertains to creating a 2-zone setup in your kettle. Having gone the low tech route and then having the means to buy the SNS, I can attest to the fact that it does what it says it does incredibly well, is incredibly well-made and makes the cooking process a lot more consistent; hence a lot more enjoyable. I'm very, very happy with my purchase and look forward to using the SNS for many years to come. If you're in the market for a high-quality jig for your kettle, this is the one.
We really appreciate your feedback, Shawn! Convenience is always a plus when it comes to grilling. Work smarter; not harder. Glad you're enjoying it!
AWESOME and EASY
All my husband wanted for Christmas!
Been too cold to grill so he hasn’t fired up the Weber but my husband was thrilled to get this for Christmas! Fast shipping and great last minute deal.
Great product, first time used on Thanksgiving didn't disappoint!!
I bought this for my 22" Weber Kettle, I have a 26" Weber Kettle and test fit it in as well & it fit fine. I spatchcocked a 13 lbs bird with a dry rub of salt, light brown sugar, fresh thyme and fresh sage, put it all over the bird and under the skin, then let rest for about 24 hours. Day of I injected the bird with melted butter, and put about 40 briquettes in the SnS, covered the drip pan with aluminum foil and lit a half chimney of briquettes, a small piece of pecan and peach wood and was off cooking. First cook was a success, as by the time I got to sit at the table people were devouring the turkey from the grill, not so much form the deep fryer and they were prepared the same way minus spatchcocking the fried bird. Next year it's only grilled turkey and another SnS combo will be needed. I cannot wait to do other cooks with it as it makes it much simpler to BBQ on a kettle. I've thought and debated a lot about a ceramic cooker as well, and if SNS comes out with a 24' like BGE XL or Big Joe I may consider it, but for now I'm sticking with my kettles.
