- Deluxe Kamado
- air flow
I bought this bundle when I purchased my SNSK. I'd seen a couple videos using it and it seemed like a worthwhile addition to the Deluxe Kamado. Since using it I was sure right. Are these items "essential"? No, but they sure make life easier. I've not had opportunity to use the divider yet, but the both the basket and bucket are in constant use. The bucket makes it so much easier to clean out the ash it's not even funny and the basket provides better air flow for the charcoal as well as making it easy to reuse left over charcoal by shaking out the ash and too small pieces. The only issue some may have is that the baskets bars are far enough apart that the smallest pieces from a bag of lump may slip through that would NOT fall through the holes of the traditional grate. Generally, though, those pieces would still have a tendency to block up the holes and cut down air flow. All in all, the advantages of the basket FAR outweigh that one disadvantage.
After burning in my kamado, the Kick Ash Pan has become a permanent fixture. It makes cleanout so simple that it (or a similar product) should really be standard on kamados. I've used the basket a few times, really whenever I'm not using the Slow 'n Sear to get that turbo slow. What I love about the Kick Ash Basket is that it makes charcoal collection a breeze when I want to switch between the traditional kamado setup and Slow 'n Sear mode. I roast chicken hot 'n fast quite a bit on the kamado and using the Kick Ash Basket with the heat deflector is a great way to get indirect heat all through the grill. Last night I put the divider to use for the first time. It's not as good of a heat deflector as the Slow 'n Sear but it did let me get a relatively two-zone fire on the grill. I dropped my Grill Grates tm from my Weber kettle over the coals and used them to grill asparagus and salmon. The asparagus got moved to the cooler side just to stay warm as I grilled up the fish. Worked like a charm.
